Passionfruit in the US

Passionfruit takes its time, about a year from seed to first harvest, so you'll want to get started early. For cooler zones like 3 or 4, May is your best bet to sow. If you're in zones 5 to 7, April or May works well, while folks in warmer zones like 8, 9, or 10 have a much wider window, even into fall and winter, you know what I mean. I always start mine indoors in pots, about half an inch deep, usually on a warm windowsill or a heat mat, because they love that warmth to get going. Germination can be slow, so be patient, like I say.

Once your seedlings have a couple of true leaves and are big enough to handle, carefully prick them out into individual pots. Don't rush it, give them time to grow strong. When all danger of your last frost has passed and the weather's settled, you can start hardening them off slowly, getting them used to the outside world. Plant them out about 5 to 10 feet apart, giving them plenty of room and something sturdy to climb on, like a trellis or a fence. You can grow them in big containers too, but they'll need proper support.
